A MESSAGE FROM THE LAY LEADERS AT ST ROCH

Dear Parishioners,

Several of us who sent letters to the Archbishop asking him to reconsider his decree to close the parish have received replies. Those replies state that he has determined not to revoke or amend his decree to close Saint Roch Parish. As a result, Saint Roch Parish is still scheduled to merge into Christ the King Parish on August 1, 2023.

Mike Stephens as President of the Parish Council, Bridget O’Flynn as the President of the Parish Finance Committee, and I as the President of the School Board intend to appeal the Archbishop’s decision. Anyone who previously wrote a letter to the Archbishop also has the right to appeal it. If you wish to do so, it must be proposed in writing to the Archbishop and postmarked no later than 15 business days from your receipt of the letter from the Archbishop.

To reiterate, this decision does not apply to Saint Roch School. An announcement regarding the schools in the Archdiocese will be made sometime before the end of the calendar year. The Archbishop has repeatedly advised us that, absent a precipitous decline in enrollment or an untenable level of teachers and staff leaving the school, Saint Roch School will be open for the 2023-2024 academic year. We have not received any information on the status of the school following the upcoming school year.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at mcgroartys@gmail.com.

Thank you,

Sean McGroarty
President, Saint Roch School Board

A Place of Faith, Community and Education

How has St. Roch played a role in your life? Maybe it helped your child find their footing in school and in the process, prepared them to thrive in high school. Or perhaps it provided a place to deepen your faith or comfort you in a time of need for you and your family. Or maybe it supplied the spirit of fellowship you experienced at the cookouts, CYC games, fundraisers and more. Quite possibly it was all these things. For parents, neighbors, and parishioners alike, St. Roch has always been a special place.
